dictatorship of the military machine - In the United States, there are fascist elements, and they have, of course, the examples of Italy and germany. They will, therefore, work in a more rapid tempo. But you also have the examples of other countries. The next historic wave in the United States will be the wave of radicalism of the masses, not fascism. Of course, the war can hinder the radicalization for some time, but then it will give to the radicalization a more tremendous tempo and swing. We must not identify war dictatorship -- the dictatorship of the military machine, of the staff, of finance capital -- with a fascist dictatorship. For the latter, there is first necessary a feeling of desperation of large masses of the people. When the revolutionary parties betray them, when the vanguard of workers shows it incapacity to lead the people to victory -- then the farmers, the small business men, the unemployed, the soldiers, etc., become capable of supporting a fascist movement, but only then. A military dictatorship is purely a bureaucratic institution, reinforced by the military machine and based upon the disorientation of the people and their submission to it. After some time their feelings can change and they can become rebellious against the dictatorship (The Perspective in The United States).

common characteristics - Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each. This includes: Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc; Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common; Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections (Fourteen Defining Characteristics Of Fascism).

21st century form of fascism - Today's combination of unbridled corporate hegemony and unending military adventurism is 'America's' democracy. It is the best form of fascism money can buy. That's right, fascism! People in this nation have been brainwashed by decades of systemic misinformation and disinformation to believe that fascism only exists in the blatant forms of jackboots and/or storm troopers marching down the streets. The reality however is quite different. There is a systemically entrenched economic and political symbiotic relationship between the elites of corporations and those of the military. The fundamental component for the fruition of fascism is the systemic integration of and by the corporate and military elites to "manage" [i.e. control] the nation's economy and the daily functioning of the nation on virtually every level of significance. The extent to which corporate and military systemic integration (which include the areas of research and development) have ballooned, in real terms, means that the corporate/military elites dominate and control the very life-blood of the U.S. economy. There is no nice or tender way of stating this. It is an insidious 21st century form of fascism by any other name. Thus, democracy (and most importantly the democratic "process") is, and has been, mortally subverted and thereby rendered, in essence, null and void--no matter the pretense. It does not take a rocket scientist to grasp the fact that when the process itself has been subverted, the end result is anything but a genuine people's democracy (American Democracy The Best Form of Fascism Money Can Buy).

Fascism is a radical, authoritarian nationalist political ideology. Fascists advocate the creation of a totalitarian single-party state that seeks the mass mobilization of a nation through indoctrination, physical education, and family policy including eugenics. Fascists seek to purge forces and ideas deemed to be the cause of decadence and degeneration and produce their nation's rebirth based on commitment to the national community based on organic unity where individuals are bound together by suprapersonal connections of ancestry, culture, and blood. Fascists believe that a nation requires strong leadership, singular collective identity, and the will and ability to commit violence and wage war in order to keep the nation strong. Fascist governments forbid and suppress opposition to the state. Fascists promote violence and war as actions that create national regeneration, spirit and vitality. Fascists exalt militarism as providing positive transformation in society, in providing spiritual renovation, education, instilling of a will to dominate in people's character, and creating national comradeship through military service. Fascism is anti-communist, anti-democratic, anti-individualist, anti-liberal, anti-parliamentary, anti-bourgeois, anti-proletarian and anti-conservative. It entails a distinctive type of anti-capitalism and is typically, with a few exceptions, anticlerical. Fascism rejects the concepts of egalitarianism, materialism, and rationalism in favour of action, discipline, hierarchy, spirit, and will. In economics, fascists oppose liberalism (as a bourgeois movement) and Marxism (as a proletarian movement) for being exclusive economic class-based movements. Fascists present their ideology as that of an economically trans-class movement that promotes resolving economic class conflict to secure national solidarity. They support a regulated, multi-class, integrated national economic system (Wikepedia).

military products - The Canadian people are living in a society in which government, corporations, and information sources are operating a huge “pact of fraudulence”, erasing or lying about the real state of Canadian weapons manufacture, the sale of those products, the conditions under which they are sold, the role played by Canadian forces in U.S. foreign wars, the tax money of Canadians used to build the armaments industry as an integral part of U.S. production, and the meaning all those things have for Canada as a sovereign nation with an independent foreign policy. With increasing determination Canadian governments have locked the Canadian economy and the Canadian future to U.S. policies. Those policies are consistently ones which are intended primarily to assure U.S. domination in the world and to wage war on any part of the globe the U.S. believes may imperil “U.S. national interests”. The U.S. – by much international consensus – moves closer and closer to the pure condition of a fascist state. Canadian political and corporate leaders, working against Canadian traditions and the will of the Canadian people, are rushing Canada into an intricate and inextricable set of ties with the U.S. The major source of “The New Fascism” is the USA. Instead of building careful obstacles against “The New Fascism” in Canada, Canadian governments (and, alas, all federal parliamentarians) move, in one way or another, to embrace it. Though that seems an extreme statement at first glance - because some opposition MPs may disagree with the move - none has taken such a clear and unequivocal stand against it that he or she stands out. Moreover, neither the NDP nor the Bloc Quebecois have resolutely forced the matter of this column into public consciousness. Quietly, then, they go along. Among the most important products a country produces are its military products. Among its most important policies are its military policies. Both, in Canada’s case, are centred upon and controlled by U.S. interests (Fourth Part. "The New Fascism" In Canada And The Western World).

capitalism and fascism - All these and other factors demonstrate that the preconditions for the advance of fascism are already in place. What is of decisive importance is to recognize the interconnection of all these factors, and to recognize that the failure to struggle against each of them individually advances them together as a totality. As each of these factors and preconditions gains ground and strengthens, it will be all that much easier for the Canadian state, and the corporate powers that control it, to make the fatal decision to support the forces of fascism in order to preserve itself. Capitalism and fascism are not the same thing, but there may become a time when the two are inextricably bound to each other, and the beckoning light of social progress is once again eclipsed in blood. Only democratic, revolutionary education and action can defeat these tendencies. As Lincoln said of slavery, "If I get a chance to hit it, I'll hit it. And I'll hit it hard." Fascism in Canada consisted of a variety of movements and political parties in Canada during the twentieth century. Largely a fringe ideology, fascism has never commanded a large following amongst the Canadian people, and was most popular during the Great Depression. Most Canadian fascist leaders were interned at the outbreak of World War II under the Defence of Canada Regulations and in the post-war period, fascism never recovered its former small influence. The Canadian Union of Fascists, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was modeled on Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. Its leader was Chuck Crate. Parti national social chrétien was founded in Quebec in February 1934 by Adrien Arcand. In October 1934, the party merged with the Canadian Nationalist Party, which was based in the prairie provinces. In June 1938, it merged with Nazi groups from Ontario and Quebec (many of which were known as Swastika clubs), to form the National Unity Party (Wikepedia).
